BSDC32102 GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT

BSDC32102 GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT

Course start date: 29 Aug 2022
Traditionally, men’s experiences and priorities were recognised as representative of all human beings which resulted in the under representation and under valuing (devaluing) of the vital contribution women make towards the development of society. This course therefore focuses on issues that view the current situation of gender inequality as a result of past cultural and social settings that have for so long existed in the world. It then focuses on an all-inclusive gender perspective that should take centre- stage in development discourse and practice. Therefore, the goal of the course is to expose students to the theoretical and practical themes of gender and development that are crucial in social development and counselling.

The course will involve:
a) Lecturing,
b) Class discussions,
Students will be required to give an oral presentation, to participate in class discussions, to undertake a team project and take an exam at the end of the semester. The class will depend so much on interactive dialogue, therefore class attendance and participation are important, and time management for both classes and other activities is paramount.
