BSDC2101 ETHICS IN FOCUS

Course start date: 30 Aug 2019
Students at Uganda Martyrs University ought to be knowledgeable of the critical ethical issues in societal transformation in this country. Uganda Vision 2040, as prioritized by the Government of Uganda, is ?to transform Uganda Society from peasant to a modern and prosperous country within 30 years.? Realizing this vision will entail a commitment to our ethical obligations in addressing contemporary ethical issues in areasof social justice (poverty, gender equality, vulnerable populations), distributive justice (access to scarce resources, corruption), unethical business practices, and lack of care for the environment. The course further examines the ethical dimension in the advance and use of emerging innovative technologies and new scientific innovations in Uganda, in areas of social communication, industrialization, health care, agriculture, and research with human subjects. The third dimension is to examine the foundation of our ethical obligations in issues of sexual ethics (abortion, homosexuality, marriage, etc...). The course will draw upon relevant ethical theories and ethical principles to engage the ethical dimension in these contemporary issues.
