
This course prepares pre-service teachers to competently teach Biology / Chemistry within a competence-based curriculum framework. It examines the aims of teacher education and Biology education. Emphasis is placed on interpreting the Biology / Chemistry syllabi, developing learner-centred schemes of work and lesson plans, and managing teaching and learning records. Through microteaching, students practise appropriate approaches, methods and techniques, apply science process skills, and reflect on their professional practice to enhance effective and contextually relevant Biology / Chemistry teaching. This course requires integration of knowledge from other courses, such as general teaching methods. Students should therefore be creative and search for information about teaching methods from various sources.
