Engineering graduates rarely fail because they cannot calculate; they fail because they cannot plan, budget, lead teams, manage projects, or communicate with clients and regulators. This course introduces engineering students to the theory and practice of management as applied to engineering organizations, projects, and enterprises. It covers the evolution of management thought, the four classical functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, and their application to engineering-specific contexts including project management, operations and production, quality management, occupational safety and health, human resource management, financial and resource management, professional ethics, and engineering entrepreneurship. The course is competency-based: every topic is linked to tasks the graduate engineer will actually perform, and assessment emphasizes application through case studies, a live group project, and field-based analysis of a real engineering organization or site.
