Master of Arts in Human Rights
The programme examines contemporary issues concerning human rights and development, human rights and social justice, with the view to bringing about positive contribution to the advancement of human rights as a universal value for all guided by ethical values. It covers broad aspects of human rights including conceptual and theoretical basis for human rights, human rights law and standards, human rights protection mechanism at UN, regional and national levels, workings of the human rights institutions, global and contemporary issues affecting human rights, human rights and development, international humanitarian law and the international criminal justice system. The programme is therefore designed to develop students’ skills, theoretical knowledge and critical thinking needed to enable them to engage in international, national, grassroots, governmental and non-governmental institutions and organizations as researchers, policy-makers and campaigners on human rights issues.
It prepares post-graduate students to work in several government agencies that promote human rights, humanitarian agencies and civil society organisations. It sets the ground for professional training and promotion of human rights, including scholarly and policy research. Further, it offers them opportunities for a wide range of employment in teaching, public service and in non-governmental organizations, and social action.
