Course Description
The Old Testament which is also known as Torah by the Jews is a collection of literature that tells the life-story of Israel as it is handed down from one generation to another. This course is concerned with exposing you to this story. This course has three parts, the first part studies the general preliminary information that serve as prerequisite to understand the entire story. The second part studies the Torah/Pentateuch and it is focused on the theological, cultural and socio-political significance as well as their foundational value to both the Jewish and Christian histories of salvation and faith. The third part studies the historical books which present the continuation of this history from the beginning of Israelites, the Sinai Covenant, occupation of the Promised Land, the Davidic Monarchy, Solomon’s temple, the divided kingdom and the exile to the Second Temple. The course helps you to understand that the history of the Israelites as different from those of other nations and races in that Israel reads its history as being divinely directed and guided.
