Course Description: This course forms the foundation of geography at all levels. It covers the major issues of map reading, photographic interpretation and statistics and the interpretation of both physical and the human phenomena. It also addresses issues about the relationship between physical and human activities, the relationship between fieldwork and maps considering the most immediate information to the unknown. 

 Course Aim: To lay a foundation in the understanding and analysis of maps, photograph and statistical charts centrally used in geography.

•       Key points in map making 

•       Various skills involved in map reading and references, bearings, gradient, distance area etc. 

•       Analysis of relationships on maps between the physical features and human features. 

•       Measurement on maps>distance, bearing, trends area and others. 

•       Concept of a scale, - reduction and enlargement  

•       Map  construction- sketch maps  

•       Analysis of relief and slope> use of contours and gradient and cross sections 

•       Analyzing land use potentials and problems on maps
