Data mining and process mining is used to extract knowledge from the information recorded by today’s information systems. Most information systems support some form of logging. For example, Customer relationship management (CRM), Data Warehouses, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP R/3, PeopleSoft, Oracle, JD Edwards, etc. log transactions at various levels. The first step in the course is to create awareness that such information in omnipresent but difficult to use.
The course has two main parts: one part focusing on the data mining techniques that are commonly used in practice and the other part focusing on process mining and the techniques used to obtain knowledge from event logs.
