ARCH-7113 PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE AND PRACTICE MANAGEMENT

The course will focus on the ‘business of architecture’. To do this you are going to establish several ‘hypothetical companies'. This will act as a vehicle for you to explore the context of setting up and leading an architectural practice as well as leading a design project.
Running a practice: In addition to the process of delivering buildings and design-thinking, architects must appreciate the relationship between business management and architectural design and obtain strong business acumen including: • business planning. • winning work • keeping financially buoyant .• working with people – HR and soft skills in running a firm.• keeping it going – the back office of an architectural firm.
Running a project: architects must understand the processes involved in delivering buildings, including: • professionalism. • the design process • the design team • building procurement. • legal and statutory frameworks • contract administration
