This course seeks to train students who will become secondary education teachers of the deaf in special or inclusive schools on the development of communication and language in both hearing and deaf children. Consequently, when they become secondary school teachers, they will be able to adjust their communication and language to meet the special needs of deaf and hard of hearing DHH) learners in the classroom. This course enables secondary education trainees to acquire knowledge about the development of communication, interaction skills, and language development and acquisition in both spoken and signed languages, so that they know what to expect of their deaf learners. They also learn the difference between communication and language, and the different aspects of language understanding, production, and acquisition. In addition, they acquire knowledge about the conditions that must be met for deaf learners to develop communication and language. Finally, they gain skills in adjusting their communication, language, and teaching to the needs of deaf and hard of hearing learners, to enable learners to access information and learn.
